There’s nothing better than getting some fresh air, and now it seems more needed than ever before. If you’re itching to get out of the house and out of town, Cullman, Alabama should be on your list. This southern city has it all—a kind community, incredible restaurants, and most importantly, tons of outdoor activities. Here are a few of our favorites:
1. Alan Jackson Small Town Drive-In
Alan Jackson is coming to Cullman on June 12 for his first-ever “Small Town Drive-In” concert! He’s bringing three decades of hits to fans in a “drive-in meets concert” experience, an exciting way to enjoy live music while still social distancing. Get your tickets here!
2. Duck River Trails
Lush green trees, calm water, and chirping birds—the Duck River Trails are a nature-lover’s dream. The trails are perfect for walkers and bikers, and with a 21 mile loop, you can make the adventure as short or long as you’d like. The trails are open from dawn until dusk, but we recommend starting in the morning if you want to avoid the summer heat.
3. Hurricane Creek Park
In the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains lies a 500 foot deep canyon called Hurricane Creek Gorge. The stunning park has hiking trails and rock formations ideal for climbers. If you want to spend a full day, grab something to-go from one of Cullman’s many delicious restaurants and enjoy a picnic lunch near the creek!
4. Smith Lake
The shores of Lewis Smith Lake are open year round for camping. You can bring your own tent or RV, or you can rent one of the nine cabins on-site. With pavilions, playgrounds, fishing, boating, and even a mini-golf course, there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy!
5. Wild Water
The Cullman Wellness and Aquatic Center is home to Wild Water, a water park packed with fun like water slides, a drift river, a splash station, high and low diving boards, and an 8 lane competition pool. There’s also a poolside restaurant that will satisfy your cravings after a day playing in the water.
6. Cross Creek Golf Course
Tee up! The Cross Creek Golf Course is consistently rated one of the top courses in Alabama, and when you see the scenery surrounding its 18 holes, you’ll know why! With rolling hills and water hazards, there’s a bit of a challenge. Stop by the clubhouse near the 9th hole for lunch before you finish out your game.
