A Ross Bridge Staycation

A Ross Bridge Staycation
Words by Sarah Margaret Shelton

My husband Dan and I decided to get away for his birthday, but not too far from home. The goal of this trip was to embody the word staycation—and that we did. Pulling onto the Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa property, I felt like I was a world away from the city of Birmingham that I had just left behind. The serene landscaping, exquisite architecture, and hospitality immediately swept me off my feet.

Once we valeted our car and got checked in, we were whisked upstairs to the Tower Suite. The Tower Suite is located on the corner of the resort and is built within one of the castle-like towers, easily making its residents feel like royalty. Clean design, expansive views, and a relaxing atmosphere meet you as soon as you open the doors.

Since we arrived fairly late on Friday evening, we zipped downstairs to enjoy dinner at The Clubhouse. Living up to its name, The Clubhouse offered a variety of food and drink options in a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. While partaking in a celebratory cocktail (in honor of Dan’s birthday) we enjoyed views of the waterfall pool. Later on in the evening, the resort turned the pool into a movie theatre, streaming a family-friendly flick for all to enjoy on a warm, summer evening.

After dinner and drinks, we retired to our room and enjoyed a kicked-back night, indulging in a few birthday cupcakes Ross Bridge had so graciously provided to celebrate Dan’s 28th!

On Saturday morning, we woke up and made our way down to The Spa at Ross Bridge—and talk about living into a staycation! Dan and I split up and spent a peaceful hour or so in the Men/Women’s quiet rooms before getting back together for a relaxing couples massage. The beauty of an early morning massage meant we could enjoy the resort pool for the rest of the day! Ross Bridge made it so easy for us to go ahead and check out, hold our bags, and make our way out to the pool for a sun-filled day.

In my opinion, Summer Saturdays are best spent when they’re sitting on the beach or a pool. And given that the goal of this stay was a pure staycation—this pool fit the bill. It was made even better by the Pool Side Bar & Grill. I mean what can be better than drinks and food brought to your seat all day?! Not much!

After several hours passed and the heat started to get to us, we decided it was time for us to pack up and head home. For me, the end of vacation is always the worst part because of the typically long drive home! This weekend, we were only a quick 30 minutes outside of town. This is truly the best way to end a wonderful time of relaxation—not having to stress about the travel home.

Our weekend at Ross Bridge wasn’t long, but it was all we needed to reset and experience a little slice of paradise before the week ahead. When you're ready to book your next staycation, it has to be Ross Bridge.
