Mom’s Basement in the Avondale neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama, is a throwback to those quintessential teen years when Saturday nights were spent hanging out in the basement of a friend’s house, eating junk food, and playing games. Paneled walls decorated with photos brought in by patrons of their own moms, 1970s-era sofas, and a line of refrigerators behind the bar give Mom’s a casual atmosphere where everyone can feel at home.

Pinball machines, a pool table, and darts are always available, or join them for karaoke nights, trivia nights, comedy shows, or movie nights. They celebrated their one-year anniversary by even throwing a prom!

Open seven days a week, Mom’s serves beer and wine and has a limited liquor selection. And instead of the typical “happy hour,” Mom’s has After School Specials--a beer and a bite to eat, such as cheese balls, a pb&j, taquitos, or bagel bites—an afternoon snack straight out of your childhood (minus the beer, of course).
