Some destinations are natural selections for hosting weddings and receptions, and Swann Lake Stables is one of those properties.
Nestled along the banks of the Little Cahaba River in the outskirts of Birmingham, Swann Lake Stables sits in a secluded forest with massive old trees, a meadow of green grass, and abounding natural beauty that adds to the magic of any onsite event.
The property dates back to the early 1900s, when it was originally owned by famed Birmingham businessman Theodore Swann. He struck it rich in the 1920s and built a barn on the property where the current stables are located, but it eventually fell into disrepair and was destroyed. In 2004, current owners Alex and Marjorie Jones built Swann Lake Stables, originally as a horse boarding facility. Though still considered a private residence, the facility was eventually converted into an event venue.
Today, guests can take full advantage of the natural beauty that abounds throughout the property for a variety of events. Weddings and receptions are commonly held on site, and for good reason: exquisite beauty is practically guaranteed whether the event is hosted indoors or out.
The focal point of the property is the hand-carved wooden lodge, which houses a grand interior space with vaulted ceilings, grand fireplace, indoor balcony, and even a full-size apartment for pre-event preparation. Ceremony options, however, extend outside the rustic retreat. Custom floor plans can also be put together for the property’s other idyllic options, including the manicured grass lawn, the stone fireplace patio, and even alongside the Little Cahaba River.
Adding to the ease of hosting a ceremony at Swann Lake Stables is the flexibility and assistance offered by the staff. The family owned and operated event venue provides weddings with 250 unique bamboo chairs for events, along with tables and a ceremony arbor. They are also flexible on vendors, and they block off three days for every wedding, ensuring there is time for the event to be planned and prepped to perfection.
